Expiration Date of Translations

A matter of great confusion among clients is the assumed expiration date of certified translations.
As we said in a previous post, in order for a translation to be considered legal in the United States, it must be notarized by a notary from the same state as the translation company.
You will notice that notaries have expiration dates for their commissions, which is the authorization given by states for a notary to operate. The fact that a notary signature has expired does not mean that the translation is no longer valid. As long as the notary's commission was valid when the translator signed the translation, then the translation is valid.
By the way, the translation should always be prepared in the translation company's letterhead, with full identification of the company. Plus the translator and the notary cannot be the same person.
